Many mothers do manage to successfully combine breast and bottle, and this is helpful for
women who return to work. Once breastfeeding is fully established, at around six weeks, you can
introduce the occasional bottle of formula milk so that your baby doesn’t reject the bottle when you wean her. For some mothers, however, giving formula can impact on their supply of breast milk.
You can of course express milk at work if there is a quiet, private place to do it. You will also need
access to a fridge, and a cool bag and ice packs to keep the milk cold until you travel home.
Expressed milk keeps for four hours at room temperature and eight days in the coldest part of
the fridge, and up to three months in the freezer. Store in a sterilized sealed container, marked with the date on which it was expressed.
