To begin with, your baby needs to feed little and often and may need to feed every two hours. The amount of fluid a baby needs is generally calculated according to her weight. From birth, babies below 11lb (5kg) need 4–5fl oz (120–150ml) of formula milk per 2¼lb (1kg) of their weight over a 24 hour period. For example, if your baby weighs
6½lb (3kg), give her 16fl oz (450ml) over a 24 hour period. Older babies who are 11–22lb (5–10kg) need a minimum of 21fl oz (600ml) of formula milk a day and water can be introduced too. Give your baby milk as often as she requires it.Use this space to record your baby’s milk feeds as you settle her into a routine. Feeding every three hours is an average routine, but this is dependent on many factors, such as growth spurts and whether it’s breast or formula milk. Flexibility is key!
